The ICC is meeting jointly with the IEEE/PES T&D Conference this Fall in Atlanta, GA, October 29 - November 2. Therefore, two of the tours established by IEEE have been selected during the time that the ICC will be conducting its meetings as ICC Spouse Tours. Any spouses of ICC members are invited to sign up for these tours if they would like to go on one of the IEEE tours with fellow ICC companions. The two selected Tours are:
Rising over eight hundred feet above the surrounding plateau, Stone Mountain is the world's largest mass of exposed granite which bears the breathtaking Memorial Carving of Confederate Heroes. Today, the giant granite monolith is the centerpiece of 3,200 acres of fun. Within the park, guests may tour the 18-building restored Antebellum Plantation or visit the Antique Car and Treasure Museum. Guests may also experience the park in a Swiss Skylift or "The General", an authentic reproduction of a Civil War steam locomotive, or the Scarlett O'Hara", an authentic paddlewheel riverboat.
After lunch at 103 West, the tour begins at the Atlanta History Center Museum, devoted to urban and suburban history of Atlanta. Also, included in the History Center is the Swan House, a mansion built in 1928 for a prominent Atlanta family. The house and its 22 acres of surrounding woodlands still stand as a memorial to the golden age of Atlanta Architecture. The Tullie Smith House, which adjoins the Swan House, is one of the few extant pre-Civil War houses in Atlanta. The house complete with animals, authentically depicts the daily life of farming in early inland Georgia.
