Ladies and Gentlemen:
At the upcoming 1998 spring ICC meeting in Toronto, we will continue the tradition of organizing activities for spouses and those who dont really want to sit around all day and talk about underground cable. Jean Hiivala has put together three great tours that give us an opportunity to experience Toronto and the surrounding area. The tours are briefly described below. If you are interested, just have your spouse check the appropriate block on the meeting registration form and we will take care of the rest.
Sunday, April 5, 1998 - Tour of Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM
Since this tour is on Sunday, before the serious meetings begin, all ICC members and guests are encouraged to join us. The coach tour will leave from the hotel around 8:30 AM and return around 4:00 PM. A tour guide will be available during our ride to the Falls. Once at the Falls, we will have an opportunity to walk beside the Falls. Unfortunately, a boat ride will not be available because ice is still on the river at this time of year. We will reboard the bus and visit Niagara-on-the-Lake for lunch at the Oban Inn which overlooks a golf course and the river. There will be more time to walk along the main street before returning to the hotel.
Cost: $35.00 US per person
Monday, April 6, 1998 - City Tour and Colbourne Lodge. 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
The coach will leave the hotel at 9:00 AM. The tour will include a guide, lunch and admission to the Lodge. The city tour will take us through notable neighborhoods, significant sites, the historic town and business district. We will see old Toronto, such as the St. Lawrence Market (1840) and the new Toronto which includes the SkyDome (1989).
Lunch will be at a very old restaurant called The Old Mill. Then we will board the bus and go to High Park and the home of architect John G. Howard. The Lodge is a picturesque villa named in honor of Sir John Colbourne, Lt. governor of Upper Canada. The Lodge has been restored to its 1870 condition and contains many of the original furnishings.
Cost: $35.00 US per person.
Tuesday, April 7, 1998 - McMichael Canadian Art Collection 9:30 AM - 4:00 PM
We will leave the hotel at 9:30 AM and travel by coach with a guide to Kleinburg, a small community outside the city. The tour includes a guided tour of the gallery and lunch at the Doctors House and Livery. The McMichael Gallery is a unique gallery nestled in the woods just north of Toronto and combines nature with art to produce a pleasing and entertaining display of Canadas most important artists. Today the collection contains over 5,000 Canadian masterpieces. The gallery includes Canadas Group of Seven, artists who captured Canadas landscapes on canvas , as well as Indian and Intuit artists and sculptors.
Following the collections tour, well drive down the hill and have lunch at The Doctors House which dates back to 1867. This restaurant was once the home of a succession of medical men, thus earning its name. The restaurant is famous all over for its old style country cooking and turn of the century warmth.
Cost: $35 US per person
Complimentary Breakfast - Monday, April 6th - Wednesday, April 8th.
Complimentary breakfast will be available at the Royal York Hotel from 7:30 AM to 8:45 AM.
I hope to see all of you in Toronto!
Sincerely,
Marjorie Hartlein
