PES-ICC Accomplishments
The ICC is approaching its 50th year. Some of the key accomplishments in
the recent past include:
- Monitored and guided the development of tree retardant insulations and
semi-conductive materials,
- Supported the use of power cable jackets to protect cables from water and
installation damage,
- Provided information on lightning arrestors and their proper installation
to extend life of the distribution system,
- Updated the ampacity tables guide engineers in the selection and
installation of the right cables for the job,
- Monitored and to guided the introduction of watertight, sealed conductors
to prevent treeing,
- Provided information on flame retardant coatings to fire-proof non-FR
cables in generating stations,
- Provided a guide for the design and application of moisture-impervious
solid dielectric power cable using metal plastic laminates,
- Produced a guide on shielding for instrumentation and low voltage cables,
and
- Revised the IEEE 383 cable tray flame test so it could be used more
uniformly to specify FR cable.
- Developed the
first comprehensive cable systems guide for the petrochemical industry, IEEE 1242, Guide
for Specifying and Selecting Power, Control, and Special Purpose Cable for Petroleum and
Chemical Plants.
The list is almost endless, if you include all the work the ICC has done
since its beginning. Your continued involvement and support will insure another 50 years
of accomplishments
