WG 7-41 - Fall 1994 Minutes

Task group 7-41 met with 21 members and guests in attendance. The group has been working to continue the EEI operating failure data for transmission cables but has not received much data from utilities. Initially, data was collected using printed forms with very few utilities supplying data. E. C. Bascom put together a computer program to aid in entering and supplying the data. Only three utilities sent data in electronically, and there were no other comments indicating that people had tried the computer program and had difficulties. Despite the lack of data, there is still a lot of interest in having a database of utility experience with operating transmission cable, terminations, and splices.

The group discussed the possibility of distributing an annual questionnaire which would cover a limited (specific) aspect of transmission cable. The group felt that this would not be well received. In order to get at least minimal data on cable operating data, we will approach manufacturers directly for the cable type, construction and lengths being supplied. Although failure statistics will not be available from this information, the working group will be able to issue a report that summarizes recent installations and technology.
