L. Bruce McClung was born in Rupert, WV on June 26, 1937. He received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV, in 1960.
Upon graduation, he joined Union Carbide Corporation, where he has worked in all phases of electrical design and electrical technology support for large chemical plants, with emphasis on concepts to achieve and maintain reliability in electrical distribution systems and to enhance safety for people who, from time-to-time, may have to work in an environment influenced by energized electrical components. He is presently Principal Engineer in the Union Carbide Energy Systems Engineering and Technology Group, South Charleston, WV.
Mr. McClung is a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of West Virginia. He is a Fellow member of the institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) where he belongs to the Industrial Application Society (IAS), Power Engineering Society, and Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society. He is a member of Chemical Manufacturers Associations Electrical Codes and Standards Task Group, American Petroleum Institutes Subcommittee on Electrical Equipment and National Fire Protection Associations Electrical Section where he participates on the National Electrical Code and Electrical Safety Requirements for the Employee Workplace. He is Past Chairman of his churchs Board of Trustees.
He has authored or co-authored twelve technical papers that have made IEEE-IAS Transaction Status. Three of these papers have received IEEE-IAS prize paper awards.
Mr. McClung became an IEEE Fellow in 1989, received the IEEE Standards Medallion Award in 1990, Union Carbide Corporations Chairmans Award in 1991 and IEEEs Charles Proteus Steinmetz Award in 1995.
