Bob has been an active member of ICC and PES for over 20 years. This extensive experience has given him an in-depth understanding of the procedures involved in the IEEE Standards-making process. If you need to accomplish something within IEEE, just ask Bob. He will either give you the answer, or be able to tell you where you can get the answer.
Bob has served on the management committee of several major IEEE Conferences, so he has considerable experience and expertise in conference management. One of Bob's recent contributions to IEEE was at the 1994 Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition held in Chicago. Bob did an outstanding job as Co-Chairman of the Meeting Rooms and Monitors Committee for the 16,000 person show. His responsibilities for the conference included overseeing the sub-committees responsible for technical session signage, meeting room layouts and scheduling, committee communications and meeting room monitors.
Bob Gear has an outspoken, take-charge, no-nonsense, "get-the-job-done" approach to IEEE Conference management and Standard writing that leads to results.
Bob took over as chairman of ICC Project #10-40 in 1979. This group was responsible for the revision of IEEE Standard 48-1975, "Standard Test Procedures and Requirements for High-Voltage AC Cable Terminations". Bob remained as chairman of Project #10-40 until 1990, when IEEE 48 was reissued. In 1988, he assumed the responsibilities of Chairman of Subcommittee #10 on Accessories, and still serves as chairman today. In that role, he also currently serves on the Administrative Committee of ICC.
