C37D – Submarine Cables
Discussion group C37D will be meeting Tuesday, October 27, from 3:30 – 5:30 PM. During this meeting, Georgios Georgallis of Hellenic Cables will give a presentation titled: Presentation of an umbilical power cable concept for combined transmission of electricity and hydrogen gas
Abstract: The development of combined transmission of electricity and hydrogen gas aims to improve the business case and flexibility and to reduce cost barriers for at-turbine electrolysis as a cost-competitive alternative to the large-scale electrolysis solutions. The investigated component level solution concerns the design – including study of electrical and thermal aspects, manufacture and testing of an umbilical 3phase submarine power cable (66kV) with integrated H2 gas transmission elements.
Also presenting will be Kazuki Hashimoto of Sumitomo Electric, with a presentation titled: Mercer Island Project For Replacing Existing SCFF Cable to XLPE Cable
Abstract: Supplying XLPE submarine cable to replace existing aged SCFF submarine cables in Puget Sound (Washington State), increasing capacity and communication, addressing supply chain constrains and minimizing environmental risks.
