Jim MedekJim Medek

Jim is a graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). He spent 35 years   with a large Midwest utility (mostly in cable) before retiring and starting his own consulting business: JMed & Associates Ltd. Jim has been active in the ICC since about 1965 and now serves as the organizations Recording Secretary. The minutes that you receive before each meeting are a product of Jim's hard work.

Jim's experience has covered all facets of the cable systems from 600 V to 138 kV, paper lead cables to extruded insulation systems, construction to engineering, and cable to accessories. Perhaps his most significant technical contribution to date was a presentation at a 1972 ICC meeting where he presented a paper on the effects of moisture in the conductor. This work was instrumental in heightening awareness of the problems that can occur when water is in the strands of extruded insulated cables.

Jim received the 1995 ICC Distinguished Service Award and served as Chairman of IEEE Standard 1026. He has also made significant contributions to the ICC in the areas of Failure Analysis and Fault Locating.
