50th Anniversary Celebration (1947-1997) meeting was called to order at 8:15am by the Chairman Dr. Mashikian. This session replaced the normal business meeting to accommodate the various activities for the celebration.
Dr. Mashikian introduced the following Dignitaries: Bob Dent, President of IEEE. and Lauston Chairman of 21 committee on High Voltage Cables.
He further recognized the following who have added so much to the progress of the Insulated Conductors Committee and were attending this meeting:
- Past ICC Chairman
- Overseas attendees
Recognition was extended to Florida Power and the employees that helped at the registration desk.
Dr. Mashikian explained the new officer structure whereby the officers are obligated to serve a 4 year term. Previous obligations were for 6 years. The new structure will consist of a Chairman, and Secretary/Treasurer. The Secretary will have two assistant secretaries, membership and publications. The new officers were recognized: Mr. Rick Hartlein will be Chairman, and Mr. Mike Walker will be the Secretary/Treasurer.
Further endeavors of Dr. Mashikian during his term has been the establishment of the On-To-100 committee. It’s charge was to study the present structure of ICC meetings, and to recommend changes to improve the committee structure by looking at the changing world and future requirements

Rick Hartlein then reported on the statistics for this meeting:

Rick emphasized the importance of the tutorial sessions. This will be increased in future meetings.
The meeting surveys have been of use to the subcommittee and working group chairman and will be used in future meetings.

Past Chairman Ted Balaska made the Fall 1997 presentation of Awards and Special Recognition.
The Guest Speaker Dr. Lowel Catlett presented a very interesting and inspiring talk after which the meeting adjourned.
