Although ICC does not have a contract with any other hotels, the following hotel is closer to the Marriott than any other hotel in the area and receives a good rating on TripAdvisor. However, you will likely need a car or be willing to walk approximately 4000 ft. (3/4 mile) to get to the Marriott.

Recognizing exceptional achievements in our profession,
by both individuals and organizations, is an important part of the mission of
the IEEE. Each year the IEEE Awards Board recommends a select group of
recipients to receive the IEEE's most prestigious honors. It is our pleasure to
inform you that the IEEE Board of Directors has named George Anders as the
recipient of the 2016 IEEE Herman Halperin Electric Transmission and
Distribution Award with the following citation:
“For contributions to
advances in computational methods for the thermal rating of electric power
cables.”
This award is sponsored by the Robert and Ruth Halperin
Foundation, in memory of the late Herman and Edna Halperin, and the IEEE Power &
Energy Society. It will be presented at a future Insulated Conductors Committee
meeting. Meanwhile, please help us extend congratulations to George on this
prestigious IEEE award!

The Policies and Procedures for Working Groups were modified April 24, 2015 to comply with some further requests from the IEEE-SA Audit Committee. Any questions about these changes should be directed to Lauri Hiivala. Harold DePriest, President of the Chattanooga, TN Electric Power Board (EPB), will be the guest speaker during the Opening Session of the ICC in Clearwater Beach, FL on Monday morning, April 13. Mr. DePriest is a native of Linden, Tennessee, graduating from Tennessee Technological University with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a Master’s of Business Administration (MBA). In 1999, the EPB launched a competitive local exchange carrier offering telephone and Internet services to local businesses. This increased the utility’s scope of expertise while offering more options for Chattanooga companies. Today, the fiber optic network constructed for the purpose of powering the most automated smart grid in the country has also served to expand EPB’s communications service offerings to include residential customers throughout its service area. Currently offering Internet speeds up to one gigabit-per-second, the communications services offered by EPB Fiber Optics also include IPTV services and phone. This should be an interesting presentation about how evolving technologies are impacting the electric utility industry. Please plan to attend.
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of two prominent former ICC attendees, Dave Silver and Atilla Dima. Dave and Atilla are known from the time when discussions at ICC meetings were more colorful and vocal than they tend to be today, think the decades of the 1970s and ‘80s. There was a passion for viewpoint that many of the older attendees will remember. Dave retired from Prysmian Cables (Pirelli at the time) and moved to Naples, Florida before later moving to Aventura, Florida where he passed away on April 2, 2015. His wife survives him. Dave was 91 years old, having been born on July 18, 1924. Interment was in Westchester, NY. Attila worked for Prysmian Cables (Pirelli) for many years and later for Cable Technology Laboratories (CTL). He is survived by his wife. They lived in the Fredrick area of Maryland. Attila was born December 2, 1933 and passed away on April 2, 2015. Interment was at the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Fredrick.
