As usual, a number of awards were given out at the Fall 2017 meeting. Special for this meeting, was the awarding of the ICC Distinguished Service Award to Bill Taylor! If you didn't get to at the Fall meeting, take a moment to congratulate Bill and all the other award recipients (listed here) next time you see or speak to them!
The Spring 2018 meeting page has been updated with two important pieces of information, to assist you in budgeting for next spring's meeting in Tucson, Arizona. A link has been added to a spreadsheet of the registration costs for the Spring meeting, and the ICC contract rate for the J.W. Marriot has been posted.
ICC Photographer Tom Champion has done a great job for us over the last few years taking pictures at each meeting, and we have implemented a new way to share them. The ICC now has an Instagram account, @insulatedconductors. Pictures are in the process of being posted to that account, and will also be available in a gallery on the Fall 2017 meeting page of our new "beta" website. Feel free to take a look around what will soon be our new website.
Don't forget to use the Guidebook app for up to date agenda's including working and discussion group's like WG B09 Guide for the Evaluation of Solvents Used for Cleaning Electrical Cables and Accessories and DG C37 on Submarine Cables. Guidebook is available in most smartphone "app stores". Details are available on the Fall 2017 Meeting page.

meeting time. Details on an overflow rate at the Hollywood Beach Marriott

Congratulations to Working Group C25W on the successful approval of a new
revision of IEEE Standard 442-2017 "IEEE Guide for Thermal Resistivity
Measurements of Soils and Backfill Materials" which was formally approved by the
SA Board on September 28th!
All table tops are now sold out, and the hotel has no additional room currently to accommodate more table top displays.

As all of you are aware, Florida has suffered significant devastation after being hit by hurricane Irma. Our thoughts, prayers and hopes for a fast recovery go out to all of Florida. Our upcoming meeting is scheduled to be held in Hollywood, Florida. The hotel has informed us that they fortunately only suffered landscape damage and expect to be fully operational by the end of this week. Based on this update our upcoming meeting will take place as scheduled at the Margaritaville Beach Resort in Hollywood, Florida.

A tour of the 16th century Italian Renaissance-styled Villa Vizcaya Museum and Gardens has been planed as part of the Spouses program. More details can be found on the Fall meeting page. Note that pre-registration will be required for this, as there is a limit of 25 spaces for the tour that will include lunch on Monday.
It is with sadness that we share news of the passing of
Bill Thue, who died peacefully at his home in London on July 12th. Bill
was 93. A private funeral is planned for August 9, and a Memorial Service
is planned for April 28, 2018 in London. Bill was a past Chair of ICC, an
IEEE Fellow, and the recipient of the ICC Distinguished Service Award in 1985.
The Spring 2017 meeting included a large awards to our members. Thanks were extended to a number of officers of both Subcommittees and Working/Discussion Groups who were ending their terms of service. If you missed the opening session, see who we thanked and honored this spring here.

Finally, Standards Chair John
Merando has posted an
updated status spreadsheet on the various Standards maintained by ICC.
Congratulations to WG B17W and D18W on getting their standards approved at the
December SA Board meeting! There is still work to be done. There are
29 documents that require action in the very near future or they will be
withdrawn. Come to ICC, and help us continue to set the standards for our
industry!

It is with sadness that we announce the death of Doug
DePriest, Vice Chair of Subcommittee D, last night, January 22, 2017. A
memorial gathering is planned from 1pm until 3pm on Friday, January 27, 2017 at
the First Centenary United Methodist Church, located at 419 McCallie Ave,
Chattanooga, TN, 37402.
