December 2, 2010 - Dr. George H. Bahder Memorial Award Nominations
Nominations are being solicited for the Dr. George H. Bahder Memorial Award. This Award is for engineering contributions that have enhanced the quality of insulated conductor cable systems utilized for electric power delivery via transmission, distribution, and station circuits. Considerations in evaluating nominees include the following:
· Nominee to have had a minimum of 10 years of Insulated Conductors Committee membership.
· Technical leadership in cable systems design and or development.
· Significant contributions toward improving the safety, reliability, and economy of cable systems for electric energy conversion and delivery within the Scope of the Insulated Conductors Committee.
· Achievements in the fields of insulated electric power cable systems; including R & D, testing developments, field applications, and operational practices.

November 3, 2010 - Standards Update
ICC Standards Chair John Merando has posted the October 2010 Standards Update.  Working group chairs/vice chairs, this reflects your current status according to IEEE SA records.  If you find any mistakes or things you don't understand, please contact John Merando to clear them up.
October 26, 2010 - Fall 2010 Awards
A number of awards were presented at the Fall 2010 meeting, including the 2010 ICC Distinguished Service Award, which was presented to Jim Fitzgerald.  A listing of all of the awards is posted here.  Please take a moment to congratulate these colleagues for their achievements and service.
October 25, 2010 - New Leadership for Subcommittee C & D
After several years of dedicated service, Ted Nishioka (Sub C) and Bert Spear (Sub D) are stepping down as Chair's of their respective subcommittees.  We all need to thank them for their dedicated service.  Vice Chairs Henk Geene and Robert Konnik are stepping up to Chair, and we are excited to announce Frank Frentzas as the new Vice Chair of Sub C, and Art Maldonado as the new Vice Chair of Sub D.
October 20, 2010 - Fall 2010 successful, now back to the beach!
The Fall 2010 meeting is now over.  We had a very productive meeting in a beautiful location in Ft. McDowell, AZ.  Please join us next May 22-25 when we return to the beach at St. Petersburg for our Spring 2011 meeting.
October 18, 2010 - C12 - "Guide for Distribution Cable Installation Methods in Duct Systems"
New Chairman Jon Erickson, will reopen C12 W, “Guide for Distribution Cable Installation Methods in Duct Systems” this Tuesday, October 19, from 3:30 – 5:30 PM in room 110 to start the process of getting P971 approved. If you can contribute to this working group or have interest in this matter, please plan on attending this meeting.
October 13, 2010 - F04 & F10 Agendas
The respective working group chairs for F04 (IEEE 400.3 PD) and F10 (Diagnostic Testing of Cable Joints and Terminations) have posted agendas for their upcoming working group meetings.

October 7, 2010 - F10 Diagnostic Testing of Cable Joints and Terminations Announcement
A message from DG Chair, Harry Orton: Over the last two meetings, F10D has been discussing a project by VDE that closely supports the goals of DG F10. VDE has created an online database of PD measurements on medium voltage cable systems that have been validated by visual inspections of the located PD faults. This is a publically available knowledgebase, that is supported through our submissions. Please visit the knowledgebase at http://www.vde-kabeldatenbank.de/main/view.php?language=English and submit any test result you can.  More information can be found on the F10 Page.

October 4, 2010 - JICABLE'11
JICABLE'11 is an international forum on issues related to insulated power cables, held in Versailles, France.  They are inviting ICC members both to come, and to submit papers for presentation at their conference, June 19-23, 2011.  The deadline for abstract submission is November 15, 2010.  More details can be found in their press release, and on their website.

September 17, 2010 - Standards that REQUIRE ACTION!
From Standards Chair, John Merando: With the ICC meeting about 1 month from now, below is another friendly reminder about overdue standards. PAR extension requests have been submitted for only two standards (IEEE 1143 and IEEE 1300). For the others, please get these PAR extension requests or new PAR requests submitted quickly as the NESCOM meeting is on October 29, but the agenda deadline is October 18.  More information is available here.  Standards requiring action include IEEE 848 (D13), 1143 (D11), 1210 (A08), 1299 (B06), 1300 (B05), 1406 (C05), 1428 (D06), 1511 (A18/B12), C62.22.1 (B06)

September 13, 2010 - Online Registration Open
Online registration is officially open for the fall meeting at www.pesicc.org.  This is the ONLY way to pay with a credit card, and also helps speed up cash and check payments onsite!  There are two changes for returning members:  1. We removed the FAX number and replaced it with a Cell Phone number. This is a personal option and will not be a required field. If you want to post your Cell Phone number, simply update your record. 2. You now have the option to designate any Dietary Restriction you have (e.g., gluten-free, peanut allergy, etc.), if one applies. This will help us better plan the menus, and hopefully assist those of you with restrictions. The default field is “none”.  Hope to see you in Fountain Hills!
September 1, 2010 - Discussion Group A14D
"A14D Chair Ram Ramachandran and Vice Chair Mike Smalley have posted draft ICEA Standard S-94-649 "Standard for Concentric Neutral Cables Rated 5 through 46 kV" dated July 28, 2009 to the download site. The ICEA has asked the ICC to review this document and provide comments no later than October 8, but preferably by September 14. Please provide all comments on the ICEA's Ballot Comment Form. Please send the completed Ballot Comment Form to: Ram and Mike.  Thanks, Mike and Ram"

August 13, 2010 - Working Group Operating Procedures
Thanks to a lot of effort by Lauri Hivala, we now have an official IEEE/PES/ICC Working Group Operating Procedure,  based on the “Baseline Operating Procedures for IEEE Standards Working Groups – Individual Method," which is required by IEEE-SA for all working groups.  Working Group Chairs and Vice Chairs are strongly encouraged to review these procedures, as some past procedures have been clarified, and some changed to match IEEE-SA requirements.  These procedures should guide all activities within working groups of the ICC.  Questions should be directed to the Working Group Chair/Vice Chair, or the Subcommittee Chair/Vice Chair.
August 9, 2010 - Spouse Program
Thanks to Anne Tingley's efforts, and Power Engineer's sponsorship, we have a very comprehensive Spouse's program this year, including an Art program, one-woman shown, and shopping excursion, in addition to the spouses breakfast that has been offered in the past.  Make sure to check out the details on the Fall Meeting Page, and make sure to both register your spouse on your registration form (to cover breakfast) and send e-mails requested in the details.

June 4, 2010 - 2010 IEEE Canada Power Medal
At the 23rd Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering held in Calgary, Alberta on May 3, 2010, John Densley received the 2010 IEEE Canada Power Medal “For contributions to the understanding and diagnosis of power cable problems”. Recipients of this medal are outstanding Canadian engineers recognized for their important contributions to the field of electric power engineering
May 3, 2010 - Fall 2010 Offline Registration
For those who cannot use the online registration, an offline registration form has been posted to the Fall meeting page.  Remember, credit card payment is only available with online preregistration, which will open closer to meeting time.  This is only for those who cannot use the online registration for one reason or another.
April 13, 2010 - Spring 2010 Awards, C23 and B02 Postings.
The Spring meeting was another busy one for awards to our members.  In addition to the IEEE Herman Halperin Electric T&D Award that was previously announced, a number of other awards were presented.  A listing is posted here.
WG C23, Guide to the Factors to be Considered in the Planning, Design and Installation of a Transmission OH/UG Terminal has posted a new draft on the download page.

WG C11 Submarine Cables has posted an agenda for their spring meeting.  WG F03 VLF Testing has posted an updated draft to the download section for discussion a the spring meeting.  WG F05 Damped AC Testing has also posted a draft to the download section.
March 16, 2010 - Working Group Postings and NEW Ad-Hoc group
WG B01, IEEE 48 has posted an agenda and also a document for discussion under the download section.  DG D04, Smoke Toxicity and Corrosive Products of Cable Combustion, has posted an update to their compendium under the download section.  Also, WG F01, IEEE 400, has posted draft 7 under the download section.  Bring a copy for discussion at the meeting.  Finally, there will be a new Sub C Ad-Hoc session on "Mitigating Manhole Explosions" chaired by William Black on Wednesday, March 24 from 8:00 am to 10:00 am in the Tulip Grove, Salon F.

March 11, 2010 -  2010 IEEE Herman Halperin Electric Transmission and Distribution Award
At our Opening Session on March 22, 2010, the 2010 IEEE Herman Halperin Electric Transmission and Distribution Award will be presented to Carlos Katz by Enrique Tejera, who is the IEEE Division VII Director. This is one of the most prestigious awards that can be given IEEE.  Please make sure that you make it to the opening session to congratulate Carlos!  For some more details on this award, please follow this link.

February 12, 2010 - Spring Meeting Opening Session Keynote
We are excited to have Paul Allen, the Vice President of Engineering from Nashville Electric Service (NES) who will be speaking at the Opening Session on Monday morning, talking about NES, electric vehicles, and their 69-kV tunnel project.

February 2, 2010 - WG F01 and F03 Drafts
Working Group F01-Guide for Field Testing and Evaluation of Shielded Cables has posted a draft 6 of their document to the download section of the website.  Comments are requested by February 26th.
Also, Working Group F03-Very Low Frequency Testing in the Field has posted a new draft of their document to the download section as well.  Comments on the VLF document are requested by February 20th.

January 7, 2010 - Passing of Ed McIlveen
We recently learned of the passing of long time ICC member Ed McIlveen on December 26th at the age of 98.  The obituary from the funeral home can be found here.  Our thoughts go out to his children and family.

January 1, 2010 - New Officers for Subcommittee A
Congratulations to the new officers of Subcommittee A.  Al Kong has been serving for several years as Vice Chair, and will now be Chair, Replacing John Smith who is serving as ICC Vice-Chair/Treasurer.  Mark Walton has graciously agreed to take on the role of Vice Chair for Sub A.
