An Invitation The invitation letter from Chairman Hartlein is packed with information to make your meeting more profitable and your trip more of a pleasure.
Meeting Agenda The preliminary agenda for the meeting has been posted. This will be revised frequently as the date of the meeting approaches (Saturday/Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday).

Our Keynote Speaker for Spring '99 will be E. O. Ferrell, Senior Vice President, Distribution Wires for Duke Power, a Duke Energy Company.

Presentations The Subcommittees will sponsor many Technical Presentations on key topics in their fields of interest. Check the listing periodically, as we'll be adding many topics as the meeting approaches.

If you plan to make presentation (especially if its a computer based presentation), be sure and check the Presentation Guidelines page.

Registration Pre-register and save some money and the hassle of standing in line.
Mini-Expo This meeting will feature a mini-expo for vendors to display their products or describe their services. Check the list of participants periodically.

If your company would like to participate, complete the application soon. Space is limited.

Didactic Cable Accessories – Applicable IEEE Standards and Failure Analysis Techniques. The program will cover the basic requirements of IEEE 404 on cable joints, IEEE 48 on cable terminations and IEEE 386 on separable connectors. It will also include a primer on how to analyze accessory failures.
New Member Orientation Past Chairman, Matt Mashikian, will conduct an Orientation Session for New Members and Guests. Plan to attend. You'll learn about the organization, meet people and come up to speed faster.
Spouse Activities Marjorie Hartlein has arranged for special shopping excursions, some interesting sightseeing and visits to great restaurants while we contemplate the finer points of the definition of TR-XLPE.

Airport Trans.: The Hotel recommends Carolina Transportation: $8 one way

Hotel Information The Spring 1999 meeting will be held at the Hilton Hotel and Towers.They will hold rooms for the ICC and guarantee this rate up till April 23rd. But don't wait that long to make your reservation (see the next paragraph). Their website includes a map as well as detailed info on their facilities. The hotel is at 222 East Third St. Charlotte, North Carolina 28202. They can be reached by phone at (704) 377-1500 or via fax at (704) 377-4143.

Early hotel reservations are critical this at this meeting. "The Winston" (NASCAR's equivalent of an All-Star Race) will be held at the Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 22nd. The Speedway seats 112,000 and will be packed, so call the Hilton early.

Hotel Parking: If you are staying at the Hilton, parking is $14/day. If not, it is $18/day. (This is expensive, but the Hotel does not own the parking lot.)

Tourist Information Be sure to also check the Web site provided by the city of Charlotte to help you prepare for your visit. Be sure to read the note from Chris Fletcher of Duke-Energy. Chris has put together some suggestions for your after hours activities in the Charlotte area.
Our Host Utility Duke Energy has graciously volunteered to host the Spring 1999 meeting. Duke Energy is not your ordinary electric company.
