Tyco Electronics Corporation's Table Top Display will present their new "Smart Limiter" for secondary network applications.
Utility practices are changing to more fully utilize available assets through use of smart grid concepts and technologies. At the same time, new generation sources with different availability profiles are coming on line. These evolutionary changes are affecting the cables and cable accessories that are part of the scope of the Insulated Conductors Committee. Components that have performed adequately in the past are being exposed to new and in some cases more severe loading conditions that result in challenges for product reliability, installer training, and purchase specifications. The same challenges offer new opportunities for product development and enhancement. These challenges will change industry standards as utility expectations and application knowledge change and evolve in the coming years.
Staying ahead of the curve as industry needs evolve will be a challenge for all parties involved. To get an overview for the scope of the problems, the issues that are known to be present, and the issues that are likely to occur, a group of panelists familiar with the “Issues and Challenges with Connectors, Joints, Terminations, and Separable Connectors” will discuss where we are, where known problems exists, and where we need to be heading to meet the challenges of the future. As such, this discussion will be applicable to a broad range of topics within the working and discussion groups of Subcommittee B and of the entire ICC.
The panel session will be on Wednesday morning during the main Subcommittee B meeting. The following preliminary list of presenters and topics should give a feel for the diversity and importance of these topics.
Following the presentations of the panelists, the floor will be opened for questions and a general discussion of these issues and how they should be addressed.
A technical presentation separate from the panel discussion will be made by Glen Bertini with Novenium, Inc. The title of the presentation is “Advancements in 200-amp Injection Elbows.” The abstract provides the following description: “Injection elbows have been in use for over two decades based on the un-sustained pressure injection paradigm. Recent advancements make injection elbows safer to use and provide higher post-injection cable reliability.”
NEW! 0.4 CEUs will be offered for this session. You must register in order to receive CEUs. (Please note, in order to receive these credits towards a Florida PE License, you MUST provide Thomas Arnold with your FL PE License number prior to the session.
