To all of the ICC, we want to wish you a happy and prosperous New Year! January 1st is the official date for our new officers to take over, with congratulations to John Smith for taking over as Chair, and Thomas Champion taking over as Vice Chair. Our deepest thanks are due to Rachel Mosier and Jim Fitzgerald, who both served extended terms as Chair and Immediate Past Chair, due to the death of Shan Nandi. Rachel will now take over as Immediate Past Chair.
With thanks to Thomas Champion, we have pictures from our fall 2011 meeting in Denver. You can find these pictures here!
The IEEE-SA Standards Medallion is awarded for major contributions to the development of standards. Our own John Merando was given this special award at a special awards ceremony on December 4, 2011. His citation reads "For significant standards contributions to the Power & Energy Society Insulated Conductors Committee". Please congratulate John on this award, and thank him for his service to standardization and the ICC the next time you see him. Pictures from the awards ceremony and the full citation are posted here.
The Insulated Conductors Committee Bahder Award was created in recognition of the contributions made by Dr. George Bahder to the science and technology of insulated power cables. The award consists of a plaque and a $2,500 stipend/scholarship that is made in the recipient’s name to an electric power engineering department, or equivalent, at a university or college of the recipient’s choice.
At the Fall 2009 Insulated Conductors Committee meeting, Bruce Bernstein, who was awarded a plaque, requested that the $2,500 donation go to the Electrical Power Engineering Department of Arizona State University. These funds supported Ganpathy Iyer while a graduate student there.
The following copyrighted article is now available on the ICC Downloads section of our website:
